Summer of ’26 [Lake Travis] (PRE-edition)

(First created as email and sent Sun 2026-06-07 BUT due to limitations in email and getting low-quality results thereof, of media, decided to instead create this web page.)
For a taste of what’s coming, plus a bit of already has happened, this year boating season.
Music, while reading this email, why not another Summer of …
and if not on Spotify, YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f06QZCVUHg
(both links opens in a new tab)
(Bryan who btw is playing a Moody Center here in Austin in July this summer, with Pat Benatar as special guest.)

The Summer of ’26 [Lake Travis]

(Sections started with the first email Sun 2026-06-07 and then updated with more information and media over the summer.)

Water Level, Boating in general

This summer will have a great lake for boating!!

Lake more than 80% full

Lake Travis 75% full
2026-05-26, CBS Austin
“Boating conditions on Lake Travis are almost ideal”
2026-05-27 14.43.42 Lake Travis has risen 4.36 feet in the last 7 days and is now 80% full!
And the above news reporting is more than a week ago.
Today Sunday Jun 7th the lake is at 670.14 ft MWL ( waterdatafortexas.org/reservoirs/individual/travis )
I.e. > 82% full, only 11 ft under full lake at 681 ft
(MWL, Mean Water Level, and all values are relative MSL, Mean Sea Level.)
Lake level has actually gone UP some 6 ft over last month, thanks to a decently rainy May around Austin and Hill Country, with the latter area more relevant for the lake. (More also in jandp.biz/aqua/lcra/)
We are almost at the same level as last summer’s catastrophic rainfalls.
 J&P – Lake Travis July 2025 – Doubling in Size: jandp.biz/aqua/travis/2025-07/
   637 ft 2025-07-04
673 ft 2025-07-16; increased 36 ft, some 11 meters, over 12 days, so far
   675 ft 2025-07-24

2026-06-18 Thu 118ºF / 48ºC Heat index temperature

(Actual temperature 97ºF /36ºC)

Q: “If actual temperature is 97F and heat index temperature is stated at 118F (Austin, Texas, 2026-06-18), what was the humidity?”

A: ChatGPT 2026-06-26:

“Using the standard NOAA/NWS heat index equation, an air temperature of 97°F combined with a heat index of 118°F corresponds to a relative humidity of about 52%.

Because the heat index formula is nonlinear and includes some adjustments, there isn’t a single exact inverse solution, but:

  • 50% RH → heat index ≈ 115–116°F
  • 52% RH → heat index ≈ 118°F
  • 55% RH → heat index ≈ 121°F

So the best estimate is:

Relative humidity ≈ 52% (roughly 51–53%).

At 97°F and ~52% relative humidity, the dew point would have been around 75–76°F, which is considered very humid and results in dangerous heat stress.”

2026-06-24 Sun: Checking out newly opened Stumpy’s.

2026-05-29 Oyster Bar Opens Today, at Captain Pete’s Boathouse

Ending this ‘a taste of what the summer may give us’ with a cool sunset pic:

Summer of ‘26

June

  • Jun 6 Sat: J&P did a briefer lake cruise around lunch-afternoon, out swimming and cooling off a bit after the morning biking trip, before evening activities downtown Austin – music concert at a theatre and finishing the evening with a drink at The Driskill (driskillhotel.com/). (Was a while since last time – it’s a very nice place with – now actually two – very nice and rustic bars. A bit lite stepping back in time to eras bygone.)

July

4th of July – Celebrations

Lots of events on and around the lake over multiple days. One we will be attending:
“Gallery Furniture & Mattress Mack have a spectacular annual 4th of July Fireworks show planned between mile marker 15 & 16 on the north side of the lake at 8:30 pm on July 4th.
Long-time Lake Travis homeowner Mattress Mac and Gallery Furniture annully put on one of the best fireworks show on Lake Travis. It’s a real tradition. 1000’s of boats watch the show by water.”

As a small taste – Fireworks from 4th of July 2024

2026-07-11 Saturday – Safe Harbor – Emerald Point

“SUMMER CELEBRATION
Come beat the Texas heat with us and enjoy music, complimentary food, beverages, and giveaways. Enjoy the sunset and a great summer night starting at 7pm on The Patio.”

2026-07-12..19 Sun..Sun RAINY WEEK

(Not sure the even on 07-11 above actually happened due to the rainy forecasts. In participation for bad weather to come, we ourselves did a Friday July 11 cruise, which ended up sooooo nice that we didn’t get home to the house until 01:00 Saturday morning.)

Raining heavily in Texas Hill Country, which in turn started filling up lakes in the LCRA watersheds and lakes.

Lake Travis eventually become ‘full’, at 681 ft above MSL, 100%, and then continued to fill up. Peaked at 684.96 ft, close to the level where e.g. Stumpy’s restaurant would close.

2026-07-18 Sat At Sundancer Grill, by car

Our marina was closed for a few days as they had to work on accommodations for the new high water level so we took a car and just had to check out how things were looking out there.

A little history:

2024 (Nov)

Lake level 638 ft, 43 ft / 13 meter below full lake at 681 ft (above mean sea level)
2024-11-27 17.44.34
NOTE signs – especially “MEMBERS ONLY”…
2025 May
Lake level 635.71 ft, -45.29 ft / 13.8 meter below full lake at 681 ft (above mean sea level) – gone slightly since Nov 2024 (above)
2025-05-16 19.34.19
NOTE signs – especially “MEMBERS ONLY”… in background just to the left of the guy in red T-shirt
2025-05-16 19.35.53.jpg
This is how it was to walk down to the guest dock (location at THAT time) then, fairly steep thing…
Then we had that summers disastrous rain falls in beginning of July in Texas Hill Country, in which more than 130 people ended up dying.
When the lake level rose very quickly – with a total +37.91 / +11.6 meter in July
but peaked on 2025-07-26 at 675.37 ft, still 5.63 ft / 1.7 meter below full lake at 681 ft (above mean sea level).

At our marina
All gated up with Eduardo-the-guard on duty and no access due to safety concerns and the staff is working on keeping docks and all properly anchored and utilities are stretching out correctly etc.
For the ones in the know: If one looks carefully you’ll see only highest level of member-parking-only is NOT under water.

2026-07-29 Wednesday – Example of Mid-Week Boating

Yep, we do boating any day of the week, after work. Like this beautiful Wednesday.

Out on the lake around 18:10, start with a bit slow cruising re-discovering areas not visited in a long time (due to low waters), stopped boat and ended up hanging out in a nice cove for about two hours – without dropping the anchor, that’s how calm it was… Nice!! With “90/90” – see video below. I.e. 90F in both air and water.

Took a turn around the dam on the way back home, back in dock around 22:30 and back home in house just after 23:00sh.

What a Wednesday!
