To everyone: just made some additional updates including:

* Rains in July, ending up filling up the lake to 100%, 681 ft above mean sea level (MSL), and more (peaked at 684.96 ft)

* Media from some selected trips in July and Aug (so far)

* Incl. how it can look like after-Sunset cruising, yes, it can get pretty dark.

Woke up this Friday to a rather chilly Austin and decided it was a good time to officially wrap up Summer of ’26, https://jandp.biz/media/2026/summer-of-26/.

It’s been a really fun, rather hectic, lots and lots of boating, many music shows attended, and some longer cruises exploring the lake.

We also had like three rain sessions (consecutive days of raining) – one in May (more than +4 ft water level), one in July (raising level to ’more than full lake’, over 100% full, to almost 685 ft, close to 4 ft ABOVE full lake at 681 ft), and then it rained again around beginning of October with some +3 ft raised level.

Oh, sorry – a clarification may be needed.: that WAS the rainy days we had this summer. I.e. for the other some 135 days we had sunny and warm days, a.k.a. Scorching Hot Summer, the Dry variant. ALL days were Scotching Hot, to the larger degree. Hey, we ARE talking Austin, Texas – on similar latitude as Cairo in Egypt, down there in hot Africa (or as some French people can be saying – Notre Afrique ou Afrique noire.)

( (5 months, May through Sep, inclusive times ~30 = 150 days – (3 occasions * ~ 5 days = 15 days) = 135 days )

Altogether it’s been a great summer and now we’re focusing on Houtumn with Halloween, Dia de los Muertos down in San Antonio, of course more boating – including Lighted Boat Parade & Holiday Party on Saturday Dec 5, some Broadway- and other shows already booked and more to be booked, some travels (domestic) are in the the plans.

Life is Good, both on and off water, though slightly better ON!

And the above news reporting is more than a week ago.

Today Sunday Jun 7th the lake is at 670.14 ft MWL ( waterdatafortexas.org/reservoirs/individual/travis )

I.e. > 82% full, only 11 ft under full lake at 681 ft

(MWL, Mean Water Level, and all values are relative MSL, Mean Sea Level.)

Lake level has actually gone UP some 6 ft over last month, thanks to a decently rainy May around Austin and Hill Country, with the latter area more relevant for the lake. (More also in jandp.biz/aqua/lcra/)

We are almost at the same level as last summer’s catastrophic rainfalls.

Jun 6 Sat: J&P did a briefer lake cruise around lunch-afternoon, out swimming and cooling off a bit after the morning biking trip, before evening activities downtown Austin – music concert at a theatre and finishing the evening with a drink at The Driskill (driskillhotel.com/). (Was a while since last time – it’s a very nice place with – now actually two – very nice and rustic bars. A bit lite stepping back in time to eras bygone.)

“Gallery Furniture & Mattress Mack have a spectacular annual 4th of July Fireworks show planned between mile marker 15 & 16 on the north side of the lake at 8:30 pm on July 4th.

Long-time Lake Travis homeowner Mattress Mac and Gallery Furniture annully put on one of the best fireworks show on Lake Travis. It’s a real tradition. 1000’s of boats watch the show by water.”

(Not sure the even on 07-11 above actually happened due to the rainy forecasts. In participation for bad weather to come, we ourselves did a Friday July 11 cruise, which ended up sooooo nice that we didn’t get home to the house until 01:00 Saturday morning.)

Raining heavily in Texas Hill Country, which in turn started filling up lakes in the LCRA watersheds and lakes.

Lake Travis eventually become ‘full’, at 681 ft above MSL, 100%, and then continued to fill up. Peaked at 684.96 ft, close to the level where e.g. Stumpy’s restaurant would close.

Our marina was closed for a few days as they had to work on accommodations for the new high water level so we took a car and just had to check out how things were looking out there.

This is how it was to walk down to the guest dock (location at THAT time) then, fairly steep thing…

Then we had that summers disastrous rain falls in beginning of July in Texas Hill Country, in which more than 130 people ended up dying.

When the lake level rose very quickly – with a total +37.91 / +11.6 meter in July

but peaked on 2025-07-26 at 675.37 ft, still 5.63 ft / 1.7 meter below full lake at 681 ft (above mean sea level).

2026-07-29 Wednesday – Example of Mid-Week Boating

Yep, we do boating any day of the week, after work. Like this beautiful Wednesday.

Out on the lake around 18:10, start with a bit slow cruising re-discovering areas not visited in a long time (due to low waters), stopped boat and ended up hanging out in a nice cove for about two hours – without dropping the anchor, that’s how calm it was… Nice!! With “90/90” – see video below. I.e. 90F in both air and water.

Took a turn around the dam on the way back home, back in dock around 22:30 and back home in house just after 23:00sh.

WAS TO BE, canceled due to rain…: Oct 2 Fri: Satisfaction (Rolling Stones), tribute band, Volente Beach Summer Concert Series at Beachside Billy’s

And so it started raining…….

It started already last days in September, with lots of warnings in news to stay inside, flashing Turn Around Don’t Drive – signs on roads, air traffic interruptions, school closure, et c. Not to forget a very muddy first ACL weekend (Austin City Limits – a huge music festival spanning over two weekends every year).

It was raining over a quite large area and upper-left part of the map below is part of Texas Hill Country, as it’s called, and as the saying going – ‘1 inch pf rain in Hill Country can mean 1 foot of water in Lake Travis’ jandp.biz/aqua/lcra/#Watersheds_Many_Rivers_Texas_Colorado_River.

And it actually looks a bit like that this time – rain figures above in Hill Country are in the 3-5, even up to 6+, inches ranges and the lake increased 3.43 feet (678.02-674.59) over the last week per data below. Ok, slightly less than 1 inch to 1 foot but still…

Oct 16 Fri Rounding Up Summer of ’26

Creating this section to officially end this page on the Summer of ’26.

We were last out on the lake last Monday (Oct 12), four days ago, and had another absolutely wonderful afternoon and evening.

Temperature in both air and water was still warm (2026-10-12 15.58.59 81.6 F in water, 27,6 C) and last weeks air temperatures have been all above 30C in days and also night temperatures have all been in range 22-25 C.

That changed today Friday the 16th with a cold front coming in. Cold weather and windy and the 18C here in the morning around 06:30 when write this with wind feels like 14C. And the week to come looks a bit different than previous week. 9C in nights…
